How to start making money with the Shopify affiliate program

I could list a few tactics for this particular program here.

But,

This would be doing you a disservice.

You are one of two types of people that’ll make it to this article:

  1. Either you know your fundamentals and are just browsing for new affiliate programs, in which case go on the button above, join up, and start making money and ignore the rest of the article, you know what you are doing
  2. You are somewhat of a beginner affiliate marketer, in that case, read on

To learn how to send traffic and make from pretty much any affiliate program program, you’ll need a solid grasp on the fundamentals of digital marketing.

This includes:

  • Knowing how to make a solid website which performs well, converts well and adds value to your audience.
  • Learning how to drive traffic for organic search results (SEO)
  • Learning some paid traffic tactics with google ads, facebook + instagram ads, display ads etc
  • And if you want to scale this effort and become a full time digital marketer, you’ll either need to dive into advanced topics like remarketing, native ads, building an email list etc.
  • Another option is just going deep into one of those skills and becoming extremely proficient at SEO and converting organic traffic, or focusing on building an email list with paid ads, nurturing that list and promoting your affiliate offers there.

What does Shopify do?

Shopify is a Canadian multinational ecommerce company based in Ontario. The company has listed over 1 million renowned and trusted brands known for their best quality products. Shopify offers various options to its potential customers including opening an online store, selling products, and marketing solutions. This online platform has been trusted by millions of brands in terms of selling, shipping, and processing payments anywhere. Starting an online business has become easier with Shopify.

Shopify Affiliate Program Commissions

Since you are here to monetize your site or audience, I’ll put the commissions on here first.

This is what I always look for first in an affiliate program 😉

The Shopify affiliate program targets influencers, educators, entrepreneurs, and content creators to promote its services. For each referred customer, an affiliate behind it gets a commission of 200%. It means that the affiliate will get twice the monthly price paid by the merchant for the first two months. The program offers a cookie duration of 30 days for each referral link. It means that the link stays in the cookie window for 30 days.

Shopify Affiliate Program Payment Terms

Something often underappreciated as some programs pay quickly while others a little more slowly. Payment terms are always a factor to consider:

You can become a Shopify affiliate if you own a website and have a valid PayPal account. The minimum payout threshold is $25. The payments are processed twice a month. The commission earned from the 1st to the 15th of a month could be received by an affiliate within the next five business days. Similarly, the commission earned from the 16th of a month to the end of the month can be received by an affiliate within the next 5 business days.

Shopify Affiliate Program, A Quick Review

To keep it easy and structured, i’ll go into a few reasons why you should join this affiliate program, and a few why you should not.

You’ll be able to tell whether I liked this program based on how many reasons I list for each site 😉

Reasons to join the Shopify affiliate program:

The Shopify affiliate program is one of the best if have an ecommerce and entrepreneurship-related blog or website. You have to refer merchants or entrepreneurs who want to start an online business. The commission rate offered by the company is phenomenal. Here are some of the important reasons to join this affiliate program: –

  • Extraordinary commission and cookie duration
  • Exceptional affiliate resources and support
  • On-time payments via PayPal

Reasons to avoid the Shopify affiliate program and work with alternatives:

There is no particular reason to avoid the Shopify affiliate program as it is gem of an opportunity for affiliate marketers. The commission rate of 200% is highly commendable as you will not find it anywhere else. However, it is not an easy program for newbies as the targeted customers of Shopify are entrepreneurs and merchants. If you have the abilities to persuade people to start online business, then it is an amazing opportunity for you to earn passive income.
