1. Introduction

Christian Jesus González Nodal is a Mexican musician known for popularizing the fusion genre of mariachi and norteño music.

He has received several Latin music awards and his debut album, “Me Dejé Llevar,” was well-received.

Nodal’s single “Botella Tras Botella” reached a high position on the Billboard Hot 100 and is his most streamed song on Spotify.

After being sued by Universal Music Latin, he signed with Sony Music Mexico and released the extended play “Forajido” in May 2022.

2. Christian Nodal’s Early Life and Career

Jaime González, a producer for Ariel Camacho and later for Nodal, and Silvia Nodal, a musician, reared their son Christian in Caborca, Sonora, Mexico.

Nodal claims he began writing songs at four, writing his first in middle school. By the time he was thirteen, he had independently mastered the piano and guitar.

According to Nodal, “There was always music in my house… my neighbors showed me around their neighborhoods and gave me some basic guitar and trumpet lessons,” according to a Rolling Stone interview.

Nodal confessed that he formerly felt insecure without opulent possessions in an interview with Life & Style magazine that was shown on Hola!

saying, “I thought that money was just that, living life wild, to the extreme, fast, without thinking things through… When I didn’t wear name-brand clothing, I started to lose confidence.

Early in his career, Christian Nodal began giving performances at competitions and events in his community.

He developed his singing and songwriting abilities by taking cues from traditional Mexican musical genres like Ranchera and mariachi.

His entrance into the music business was made possible by the music producers drawn to his undeveloped skill and distinctive voice.

3. Christian Nodal’s Rise to Fame and Major Achievements

2016–2017

A remake of the song “Adiós Amor” by Nodal was released in April 2016.

It swiftly gained popularity in Mexico and the United States, topping the Monitor Latino Top 20 General Mexican Songs chart and reaching its highest-peaking position on the Billboard Latin Songs chart at number four.

Nodal and Spanish vocalist David Bisbal worked together on the song “Probablemente” in June 2017.

Nodal’s first studio album, Me Dejé Llevar, was available in August 2017.

On the AMPROFON Top 100 Mexico chart and the Billboard Top Latin Albums in the United States, it reached number 7.

The album was praised by music critic Thom Jurek of Allmusic, who called the mariachi instrumentals “lush and elegant” and added, “Nodal wrote seven of these 13 songs, but given his performances, he may as well have penned them all.

In these songs and others, Nodal evokes traces of the great romantic singers like Vincente Fernandez and Luis Miguel.”

2018–2020

On their “Jaripeo Sin Fronteras” Jaripeo tour in 2018, Nodal traveled with Mexican entertainer Pepe Aguilar, his brother Antonio Aguilar Jr.

his daughter Angela Aguilar, and their son Leonardo Aguilar. Ngela claims that Pepe invited Nodal to open the show.

Ahora, Nodal’s second studio album, was released in May 2019.

Although less successful commercially than Me Deje Llevar, the album peaked at number 19 on the Top 100 Mexico chart and seven on the Billboard Top chart in the US.

Each track on the album conveys its heartbreaking story and exhibits Nodal’s mature voice, critic Sami Drasin of Billboard wrote, “Despite having similar ranchera melodies and mariachi tunes throughout the production.” The Monitor Latino singles “Nada Nuevo” and “De Los Besos Que Te Di” reached their highest point at the top of the charts.

No. 3 on the chart, “No Te Contaron Mal” was named Regional Mexican Song of the Year at the 2021 BMI Latin Awards.

The Ahora Tour, which Nodal started in 2019 to promote the album, was cut short in Miami, United States, because of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Ayayay!, Nodal’s first extended play, was released in May 2020, and it reached its highest point at number 8 on the Top Latin chart.

With Angela Aguilar, Nodal released the duet “Dime Cómo Quieres” as a single in November.

To make up for “something missing from his [Nodal’s] album, he believed that something was me,” Nodal allegedly emailed her father, Pepe Aguilar, the song.

On the Monitor Latino charts, the song reached number one.

Ayayay! was published in full-length and super deluxe versions in September and November, respectively.

2021–2023

In cooperation with Mexican rapper Gera MX, Nodal released the single “Botella Tras Botella” in April 2021.

The song created history by being the first indigenous Mexican song to do so in the 63-year history of the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 60.

The song also reached its best peak on Billboard Hot Latin Songs and the Billboard Global 200, peaking at numbers 3 and 9, respectively.

This was Nodal’s highest-peaking entry on both lists and his first top-ten entry on the latter.

With vocalist Belinda, with whom he would eventually get engaged, Nodal cut a version of José Alfredo Jiménez’s “Si Nos Dejan” in May 2021.

The song’s cover by Nodal was later used as the title song for the telenovela of the same name.

He collaborated with the Mexican rock band Maná on the January 2022 single “Te Llore un Ro,” his eighth attempt to reach the top of the Monitor Latino charts.

The track “Ya No Somos Ni Seremos” was released by him the following month.

Despite not appearing on the Monitor Latino charts, the song was Nodal’s first to reach the top spot on the Hits of the World-related Billboard Mexico Songs chart.

Forajido, the second EP Nodal, published in May 2022, reached its highest point at number 28 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart.

Six songs comprised the EP, including “Ya No Somos Ni Seremos” and “La Sinvergüenza”, featuring the local Mexican banda ensemble Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizárraga.

These songs peaked at number two on the Monitor Latino charts and 20 on the Mexico Songs chart.

A follow-up EP, Forajido EP2, was released in May 2023, more than a year later. It reached number 42 on the Top Latin Albums.

Artistry

Nodal is well known for his distinctive “mariacheño” fusion of mariachi and norteño music. Additionally, he has a tenor vocal range.

Ariel Camacho, whose band Los Plebes del Rancho would later collaborate with Nodal, was mentioned by Nodal as one of the key inspirations for his musical approach in a YouTube interview with Amazon Prime Music.

“I was inspired, from the beginning of my career, by Ariel Camacho,” he said. “[He] was at the top of regional Mexican music because he was very young and went through the same I went through.” In a Rolling Stone interview, he credited Los Bukis’ Marco Antonio Sol and Joan Sebastian as musical influences.

Nodal stated, “I want my daughter to meet me… I want her to see my face without them,” after he decided to remove his facial tattoos in 2023.
