1. Introduction

Rayne Dakota Prescott, known as Dak Prescott, was born on July 29, 1993, in Sulphur, Louisiana. He plays Quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League.

He has always been passionate about football and started playing football at his college level. In his collegiate years at Mississippi State, he won All-SEC honors twice.

In 2016, he got selected by the Cowboys in the fourth round of NFL Draught. Dak was a backup for the Cowboys and was supposed to start in his rookie season.

But he took over as a starter when Tony Romo Cowboys starter got injured in preseason.

After that, he won the NFC Championship for the Cowboys and broke numerous rookie quarter records and garnered the title of offensive rookie of the year. S

ince then, he led the Cowboys to two more division victories and two entries to the Pro Bowl.

He received the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Honor in 2022.

2. Dak Prescott's Early life


Of the three kids born to Nathaniel and Peggy Prescott, Dak is the youngest. Prescott attended Haughton High School in Haughton, Louisiana, where he played football for the Buccaneers while she worked as the manager of a truck stop.

He completed 159 of 258 throws for 2,860 yards and 39 touchdowns during his final year.

He also helped Haughton win the 2010 District 1-AAAA Championship by rushing for 951 yards on 90 attempts with 17 touchdowns.

Peggy passed away on November 3, 2013, from colon cancer. Prescott, a three-star recruit, chose Mississippi State over Louisiana Tech, LSU, Memphis, Nicholls State, North Texas, and TCU for his scholarship offer.

Career in College

As a true freshman in 2011 with Mississippi State, Prescott was given a redshirt. In 2012 he participated in 12 games as the substitute for Tyler Russell and completed 18 out of 29 passes for 194 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. He added running touchdowns with 110 yards on 32 carries.

He started as Russell’s backup in 2013 after his concussion sustained and became the starter. 

He completed 156 out of 267 passes for 1940 yards, ten touchdowns, and seven interceptions in the 11 games he participated in.

He also ran 829 yards and 13 touchdowns on 134 carries. In the 2013 Liberty Bowl, Prescott guided the Bulldogs to a 44-7 victory against Rice Owls and won the game’s MPV title.

His 2013 season performance ranked fourth in total yards (2,769) and total touchdowns (23), tied for seventh in rushing touchdowns (13), and seventh in passing yards (1,940).

After the season, he was included on the 2013 SEC Fall Academic Honour Roll. 

The Bulldogs won the Orange Bowl in 2014 when Prescott started as a full-time starter, they also won the regular season record.

He named several school milestones for himself which include the single-season passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and overall, 41 touchdowns.

He became the fourth player in FBS history to pass for 60 touchdowns and carry 40 touchdowns in the 2015 season. The players on the top three rankings were Dan LeDevour of Central Michigan, Tim Tebow of Florida, and Colin Kaepernick of Nevada.

He became a close competitor to Tebow and Matt Jones with 2411 rushing yards in the SEC’s all-time list of quarterbacks.

He stands sixth with 107 total touchdowns scored and fourth in SEC history with 11,153 total yards. In the SEC he stood third for his 288 consecutive pass attempts without interception and became the longest school history. 

In 2015, he established a new touchdown passes record in a single game for the Bulldogs against Arkansas. In another SEC single game he tied a record for touchdowns with seven.

He was named the AutoNation National Offensive Player of the Week by American Football Writers Association, following his performance in the Bulldog's victory over Kentucky. 

Prescott was the first player in the history of the school who threw over 300 yards and carried for over 100 yards in the same game.

His record was tied with Jackie Parker’s record of six touchdowns in a single game from 1952.

He gained national-level recognition along with being a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, a semi-finalist for Maxwell Award, and Davey O’Brien Award.

He also got his name on the watchlist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award. He also received a Wuerffel Trophy too.

In 2016 he joined the Dallas Cowboys for their rookie minicamp and was given number 10 because the David Street team’s wide receiver wore number 15 from his college days. He was the first quarterback to wear number 4 for the Dallas Cowboys.

  5. 2019: Dak 2019 was Prescott's statistically most remarkable season yet, as he threw for 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns. The Cowboys, however, finished with an 8-8 record and were eliminated from the playoffs.
