Lundgren is not only a talented actor, but he also has a degree in chemical engineering and is fluent in multiple languages.
He has a black belt in karate and was a European champion. He began his career as a bodyguard for Grace Jones and later pursued acting, landing roles in films such as Masters of the Universe and The Punisher.
Lundgren has also directed and produced several films.
He is known for his recurring role as Gunner Jensen in The Expendables franchise and has appeared in other notable films, including Creed II and Aquaman.
2. Dolph Lundgren Early Life and Career
Hans Lundgren was born on the 3rd of November, 1957, in Spanga, Sweden, to language teacher Sigrid Birgitta and Swedish government engineer (M.Sc.) and economist (MBA) Karl Hugo Johan Lundgren (1923-2000).
He resided in Spanga till age 13, when he relocated to Nyland, Angermanland, to live with his grandparents.
Some sources incorrectly indicate that he was born in 1959, but Lundgren has confirmed that he was born in 1957.
He has two sisters named Katarina and Annika and a younger brother named Johan. According to Lundgren, his father was physically aggressive and took his anger on his wife and eldest son.
He has mentioned that his father would brand him a “loser” during his rants, which encouraged him later in life.
As a child, Lundgren was insecure and had allergies, referring to himself as a “runt.” He was passionate about drumming and dreamed of being a rock star.
When he was seven years old, he tried judo and Gj-ry. He began Kyokushin karate when he was ten and weightlifting when he was a teenager.
He graduated with straight As from high school. He got various scholarships. Between 1975 and 1976, he went to Washington State University before starting his compulsory 1 year service in the Swedish Coastal Artillery at the Coastal Ranger School.
He went to the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm in the late 1970s and got degree in the early 1980s.
During his studies, Lundgren developed his karate abilities by training at the dojo for five years, and by the late 1970s, he had earned a black belt in Kyokushin.
He was a Swedish Kyokushin karate team captain and competed in the Kyokushin Karate Organization’s 1979 World Open Tournament.
He succeeded in the European championships in 1980 and 1981 and a full-contact karate event in Australia in 1982.
In 1982, Lundgren received a master’s in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney. He worked as a bouncer in a notorious King’s Cross nightclub in Sydney.
In 1983, Lundgren received a Fulbright Scholarship at MIT. However, while planning to relocate to Boston, he was discovered in the Sydney nightclub where he worked and was employed as Grace Jones’ bodyguard, and the two became lovers.
He relocated to New York City with Jones and dabbled in modelling at the Zoli Agency, where he was defined as “a bit too tall and muscular for a model’s size 40.” Despite his enormous physique and much more imposing mind, Lundgren was an incredibly shy child.
Indeed, his social shyness was one of the major reasons why he pursued martial arts and acting. “I felt I was very inhibited and shy and insecure in many ways,” he told SOMA magazine in an interview.
“Sports was one way to make up for that, and I felt there was something about acting, I didn’t know what it was, that sort of intrigued me — having to tap into your own personality, into the depths of it, and find out what was really going on.”
He learned acting at the Warren Robertson Theatre Workshop. He claimed that “my time in New York City exposed my adolescent Swedish eyes to many different people and lifestyles, mainly in the arts.
Friends advised him that he should act in films. He dropped out of MIT after only two weeks to pursue acting.
Lundgren stated that after being exposed to the entertainment industry, he discovered it to be more appealing and gratifying than chemical engineering and decided to pursue a career in acting.

Indeed, he has gone a long way since his small role in an old James Bond film.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Dolph Lundgren became one of the world’s most identifiable action actors. Lundgren distinguished himself as a versatile actor who could play heroes and villains.
Although his best years were undoubtedly in the 1980s, he continues to act in many television and film projects in the present day. Lundgren is a multi-talented chemical engineer with a master’s in chemical engineering.

In Marbella in 1994, he married Anette Qviberg (born 1966), a jewellery designer and fashion stylist.
The couple decided they liked Marbella so much that they rented there for years before purchasing a family home there.
They have two daughters born in Stockholm, Ida Sigrid Lundgren (1996) and Greta Eveline Lundgren (2001).
Lundgren and Qviberg stated that they choose to live outside of Hollywood to provide their children with as regular a childhood as possible.
Three masked burglars allegedly broke into Lundgren’s Marbella villa in early May 2009.
The intruders bound him and threatened his wife before fleeing when they discovered a family portrait and realized the residence belonged to Lundgren.
Later, Lundgren indicated that he suspected the intruders were Eastern European and had sought friends in Bulgaria to look into them, but to no avail. Ida Lundgren, Lundgren’s elder daughter, had PTSD due to the incident. His wife was the one who was “the most traumatized,” and they split in 2011.
From 2011 through 2017, Lundgren was in a relationship with Jenny Sandersson. In June 2020, Lundgren married 40-year-old Norwegian personal trainer Emma Krokdal.
