Thomas Andrew Felton is an English actor widely famous for playing Draco Malfoy in the film adaptations of J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter fantasy novels.
Tom was born in Surrey, and he began appearing in commercials, and this was when he made his screen debut with the role of Peagreen Clock in The Borrowers.
2. Tom Felton’s Early life
Thomas Andrew Felton, aka Tom Felton, was born on September 22 1987, in Epsom, Surrey.
Tom has 3 siblings, and he is the youngest of four boys born to Sharon Anstey and Peter Felton.
The parents divorced when Tom was a teenager.
Tom’s maternal grandfather, Nigel Anstey, is a geophysicist.
Felton got his education at West Horsley’s Cranmore School until age 13.
After this point, he went to the Howard of Effingham School for his secondary education.
Tom discovered that he had developed an interest in singing during his childhood.
So, he actively joined school choirs.
Felton was also offered a place in the Guildford Cathedral Choir.
3. Tom Felton’s Career
Felton started acting in adverts for companies like Commercial Union and Barclaycard.
He was able to get his first feature film role when he played the Peagreen Clock in The Borrowers (1997).
Felton did the voice acting for James in the television series Bugs in 1998.
He also played the witness character Thomas Ingham, opposite Clive Owen, in a film called Second Sight in 1999.
Felton played Louis T. Leonowens in the movie called Anna and the King (1999), which also starred Jodie Foster.
This movie was filmed in Malaysia. In 2000, Tom made a guest appearance in Second Sight 2 in the episode called “Hide and Seek”.
2001–2011: Harry Potter series, recognition and fame
Auditions for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone were held in 1999. It was the film adaptation of J. K. Rowling’s novel of the same name.
Tom had not read the novels when he was appearing for the auditions. He originally learned about the roles of Harry Potter and Ron Weasley.
Ultimately, he was cast as Draco Malfoy, the bad guy who will do anything to make sure his house always scores first.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone came out in November 2001 and received commercial success.
The movie was praised for its casting, including Felton’s. A critic called his performance “the personification of upper-class insolence.”
2002 – 2007 Potter Films and More
He followed his role the next year in another Harry Potter film called Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002).
Because of this film, Felton won a Disney Channel Kids Award.
Tom also started his Official Tom Felton Fan Club in 2004, and he participated in autograph signing events.
His fan club attracted so many fans that Tom had to put a temporary stop to people signing up.
When a fan asked Felton what kids should do if someone like Draco Malfoy is bullying them, he said: “Always tell someone. You don’t want to keep it to yourself.”
Tom appeared in the upcoming Harry Potter films as well.
They were called Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and also Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire. Tom made a guest appearance on Home Farm Twins in 2005.
Here he played Adam Baker in the short-lived series.
On November 11 2005, Rupert Grint and Tom presented Liz Carnell with the much-deserved Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Award for bullying awareness.
The next is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It was filmed in 2006 and released in 2007. It became the second-highest-grossing movie of the year.
When questioned about wanting to play a good guy in the future, Tom answered: “No. Well, I do not know.
I suppose, for now, I am happy with sticking to what he is. But after the Potter legacy is in the past, I look forward to playing a good guy, or someone different than Malfoy anyway, someone not so spiteful.”
In July 2007, Tom Felton attended a pre-screening, a charitable event, of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at the Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado.
2011: Sketches, Movies and Draco Magic
On March 18 2011, Felton worked in a comedy sketch on Red Nose Day 2011 along with James Corden, Rupert Grint, George Michael, Keira Knightley, Professor Robert Winston, Justin Bieber, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
On November 12 2008, Tom Felton appeared alongside Jack Osbourne on Adrenaline Junkie and participated in different challenges in South Africa.
Felton played Simon in the 2009 horror/thriller movie called The Disappeared. In the same year, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released in July as a major commercial success.
In 2010, Tom Felton released his original song “Hawaii”. This song was released on Six String Productions which is an independent record label run by Tom Felton, David Proffitt and Philip Haydn-Slater.
Felton played the main character, Ray Marsden, in White Other (2010).
Felton played his role as Draco Malfoy for one last time in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, both in Part 1 and Part 2.

In 2012, Felton was part of the supernatural horror film called The Apparition and an indie drama From the Rough. In 2013 he was part of Belle (2013).
This film was released at the Toronto International Film Festival to critical praise.
He starred along with Elizabeth Olsen as Camille Raquin in Thérèse (2013).
Felton starred in Labyrinth as Viscount Trencavel. It aired on Channel 4 in March 2013.
Tom portrayed a US Navy airman in the survival drama Against the Sun (2014), which had mixed reception.
In 2015, Tom reappeared in Murder in the First on TNT as his character Erich Blunt, who was a Silicon Valley worker and murder suspect.
Felton had a supporting role in Risen (2016), which was a box-office success.
He also had a supporting role in Message from the King and The United Kingdom.

Tom also did voice acting in the English version of Sheep and Wolves (2016).

Tom was cast in a science fiction series called Origin on April 26 2018. He starred in the role of Logan Maine along with actress Natalia Tena.
The series opened with mixed reviews. The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that Tom Felton played an “explosive whiner unrecognizable from his days as bad boi fa lyfe Malfoy.”
Tom also played Laertes in Ophelia. It was Claire McCarthy’s film adaptation of Hamlet, which was centred around the character of the same name.
This film got its premiere at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. A critic remarked his performance as “lithe” and “done nicely”.
In 2019, Tom acted in the comedy-drama called Braking for Whales and also a Netflix family-horror show, A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting, in 2020.
Felton played a British soldier in a Dutch World War II film called The Forgotten Battle. It had a red carpet premiere in 2020, and a year later, it got a Netflix release.
In June 2020, Tom was planning to star in the war thriller called Burial. This film was set in the last days of World War II.
In October, it was announced that Tom would star in Canyon Del Muerto. It is a biopic about archaeologist Ann Axtell Morris.
