1. Introduction

Thomas Andrew Felton is an English actor widely famous for playing Draco Malfoy in the film adaptations of J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter fantasy novels.

Tom was born in Surrey, and he began appearing in commercials, and this was when he made his screen debut with the role of Peagreen Clock in The Borrowers.

Thomas Andrew Felton, aka Tom Felton, was born on September 22 1987, in Epsom, Surrey.

Tom has 3 siblings, and he is the youngest of four boys born to Sharon Anstey and Peter Felton.

The parents divorced when Tom was a teenager.

Tom’s maternal grandfather, Nigel Anstey, is a geophysicist.

Felton got his education at West Horsley’s Cranmore School until age 13.

After this point, he went to the Howard of Effingham School for his secondary education.

Tom discovered that he had developed an interest in singing during his childhood.

1997–2000: Beginnings

Felton started acting in adverts for companies like Commercial Union and Barclaycard.

He was able to get his first feature film role when he played the Peagreen Clock in The Borrowers (1997).

Felton did the voice acting for James in the television series Bugs in 1998.

He also played the witness character Thomas Ingham, opposite Clive Owen, in a film called Second Sight in 1999.

Felton played Louis T. Leonowens in the movie called Anna and the King (1999), which also starred Jodie Foster.

This movie was filmed in Malaysia. In 2000, Tom made a guest appearance in Second Sight 2 in the episode called “Hide and Seek”.

Tom had not read the novels when he was appearing for the auditions. He originally learned about the roles of Harry Potter and Ron Weasley.

Ultimately, he was cast as Draco Malfoy, the bad guy who will do anything to make sure his house always scores first.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone came out in November 2001 and received commercial success.

The movie was praised for its casting, including Felton’s. A critic called his performance “the personification of upper-class insolence.”

2002 – 2007 Potter Films and More

He followed his role the next year in another Harry Potter film called Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002).

Because of this film, Felton won a Disney Channel Kids Award.

Tom also started his Official Tom Felton Fan Club in 2004, and he participated in autograph signing events.

When questioned about wanting to play a good guy in the future, Tom answered: “No. Well, I do not know.

I suppose, for now, I am happy with sticking to what he is. But after the Potter legacy is in the past, I look forward to playing a good guy, or someone different than Malfoy anyway, someone not so spiteful.”

In July 2007, Tom Felton attended a pre-screening, a charitable event, of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at the Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado. 

2011: Sketches, Movies and Draco Magic

On March 18 2011, Felton worked in a comedy sketch on Red Nose Day 2011 along with James Corden, Rupert Grint, George Michael, Keira Knightley, Professor Robert Winston, Justin Bieber, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

On November 12 2008, Tom Felton appeared alongside Jack Osbourne on Adrenaline Junkie and participated in different challenges in South Africa.

Felton played Simon in the 2009 horror/thriller movie called The Disappeared. In the same year, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released in July as a major commercial success.

In 2010, Tom Felton released his original song “Hawaii”. This song was released on Six String Productions which is an independent record label run by Tom Felton, David Proffitt and Philip Haydn-Slater.

Felton starred in Labyrinth as Viscount Trencavel. It aired on Channel 4 in March 2013.

Tom also played Laertes in Ophelia. It was Claire McCarthy’s film adaptation of Hamlet, which was centred around the character of the same name.

In June 2020, Tom was planning to star in the war thriller called Burial. This film was set in the last days of World War II.

Tom Felton was in a relationship with Jade Olivia Gordon from April 2008 until early 2016. She was a stunt assistant. Jade played his character’s wife in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

Tom got ill while participating in a celebrity golf exhibition, which was scheduled on September 23 2021. It was a part of the 2021 Ryder Cup festivities, which happened near Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Felton was escorted from the golf course. He was placed on a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
