2. Trevor Lawrence’s Early Life

Trevor was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. He subsequently played basketball and football at Cartersville High School in Cartersville, Georgia.

He completed 250 of 406 passes for 3,904 yards and 51 touchdowns as a junior in 2016, earning him the title of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Player of the Year.

He passed for 3,655 yards and 43 touchdowns in his sophomore year and 3,042 yards and 26 in his first year.

Lawrence led the Purple Hurricanes to 41 straight victories from his sophomore to senior year. He also won two state championships, four region crowns, and many national high school player of the year awards.

The previous record for throwing yards and passing touchdowns in Georgia was held by Gainesville native Deshaun Watson, who also played for Clemson before Lawrence shattered it in 2017.

Regarded as one of the most outstanding high school quarterback prospects ever, Lawrence was a five-star recruit. He committed his collegiate football to Clemson University on December 16, 2016.

3. Trevor Lawrence’s Rise to Career and Success

After spending his first four games splitting time with Kelly Bryant, Trevor was named the starting quarterback by head coach Dabo Swinney in 2018.

Trevor finished the season with 3,280 passing yards and 30 touchdowns, and the Touchdown Club of Columbus awarded him the Archie Griffin Award and National Freshman of the Year. In addition, he received the ACC Rookie of the Year title.

Lawrence guided Clemson to an ACC Championship Game triumph against Pittsburgh (42-0), an undefeated regular season, and a berth to the College Football Playoffs.

In the 2018 Cotton Bowl Classic, the Tigers, rated No. 2 in the College Football Playoff rankings, beat Notre Dame, ranked No. 3, 30-3.

They made it to the College Football Playoff National Championship game in 2019 and beat Alabama 44–16 to deal the Crimson Tide its worst defeat under Nick Saban.

During his sophomore year, 2019, Lawrence was seen as a strong contender for the Heisman Trophy and was awarded the preseason ACC Player of the Year.

Trevor led the Tigers to the 2019 Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State, where they defeated them 29–23 to advance to the national championship game.

He had 259 passing yards, two touchdowns in addition to 16 rushes for 107 yards, and a touchdown.

Trevor led the Tigers to another undefeated regular season. In the CFP Championship Game against LSU, Lawrence suffered his first-ever loss as Clemson ended a 29-game winning run with a 42–25 loss.

After anticipation that he would declare for the 2020 NFL Draft, Lawrence rejoined the Tigers for his junior season.

Lawrence completed his season with 1,833 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and two interceptions in his first six games.

Lawrence tested positive for COVID-19 on October 30, 2020, and as per ACC standards, he was placed under a 10-day quarantine. He missed two games before making a comeback. Of the two games, Clemson suffered a loss to Notre Dame.

After returning to the club, Lawrence finished second in the division-less model implemented for the 2020 campaign, which helped lead the Tigers back to the ACC Championship Game.

Lawrence started as quarterback as they defeated Notre Dame in the league championship game rematch, and they were chosen to play in the College Football Playoffs.

Ohio State defeated Lawrence and the Tigers in the Sugar Bowl, the CFP semifinal.

Lawrence completed his last season with the Tigers by completing 231 of 334 passes for 3,153 yards, 24 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

In addition to winning the ACC Player of the Year award, he was voted second in the Heisman Trophy voting, trailing only Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith.

The Jacksonville Jaguars, who had the worst record in the league at 1-15 at the end of the 2020 season, chose Trevor Lawrence as the first overall choice in the 2021 NFL Draft.

After that, he agreed to a four-year, $36.7 million deal with a $24,118,900 signing bonus.

After starting all 17 games as a rookie, Trevor Lawrence finished second in rookie passing yards behind Mac Jones of the New England Patriots.

In the final week of the preseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that Lawrence would start at quarterback for the 2021 season. Lawrence threw for 3,641 yards with 12 touchdowns and a league-high 17 interceptions.

Following his difficult rookie season, Lawrence excelled in Year 2. With 25 touchdowns and only eight interceptions in 463 passing yards, the gunslinger played up to his No. 1 draft position.

In the process, his QB rating shot up from 71.9 to 95.2.

As a result, the Jaguars, who had a slow start to the season, turned things around and finished 9-8 to win the AFC South.

Then, in the Wild Card Round, Lawrence and the Jaguars created history by defeating the Los Angeles Chargers 27-0 to win and go on.

But in the Divisional Round, Jacksonville fell short against the Kansas City Chiefs, who went on to win the Super Bowl.

Lawrence passed for over 4,000 yards in 2023, and the Jaguars finished 9-8 but could not make the playoffs.

Although Lawrence’s season was a setback with just 21 touchdown passes to 14 interceptions, head coach Doug Pederson believed the Jaguars would eventually sign Lawrence to a contract extension.
