Katrina Laverne Taylor, also known as Trina, is an American rapper who gained notoriety with her appearance on the Trick Daddy hit “Nann Nigga” in 1998.
She initially pursued a career in real estate but eventually dedicated her life to music.

On December 3, 1978, Katrina Laverne Taylor was born in Miami, Florida. She was raised in Miami, Florida’s Liberty City neighborhood.
Her mother, Vernessa Taylor, was a native of the Bahamas, while her father is Dominican.

She graduated in 1992 from Miami Northwestern Senior High School, where she was a majorette and attended.

Trina drew the attention of Miami rapper Trick Daddy in 1998 as she was pursuing her real estate license, and he requested her to appear on his tune “Nann Nigga.” The song was made available on July 14, 1998, as the debut single from Trick’s second studio album, www.thug.com.
This launched Trina’s rap career, which led to a record deal with Slip-n-Slide Records and distribution from Atlantic Records.
Trina’s debut album, Da Baddest Bitch, was launched on March 21, 2000.
It debuted at No. 33 on the US Billboard 200 and No. 11 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
It spent 39 weeks on the Billboard 200 list, and 49 weeks straight on the Hip-Hop/R&B album chart, and by November of that year, the RIAA had granted it Gold certification.
The singles “Da Baddest Bitch” (released on December 22, 1999) and “Pull Over” (released on February 13, 2000) were released before the album and respectively peaked at No. 93 on the Hot 100, No. 46 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list, and No. 41 on the Rap Songs chart.
Having greater creative autonomy than ever, Trina started working on her second album in 2001 with Missy Elliott.
In interviews, she stated that the album was “more what Trina’s about, how Trina looks, how Trina feels, and what Trina consists of. “She launched Diva Enterprises, a record label imprint, at this time.
She signed Lil’ Brianna, a 9-year-old recording artist who would later go by the name Brianna Perry and appear on one of her tracks, “Kandi,” in September 2002.

3. Trina’s Rise to fame and significant achievements
There were relatively few female rappers that were successful in the industry when she began her career.
Taylor was one of the female rappers who helped to revolutionize the industry. She inspired aspiring female rappers to pursue their aspirations regardless of the challenges.
Trina initially had no musical aspirations, but her frenetic stanza on Trick Daddy’s 1998 Top Five rap track “Nann” marked the beginning of a long-lasting and significantly important career.
With her subsequent gold-certified debut, Da Baddest Bitch (2000), the Miamian showed she could hold the limelight.
Trina became one of the most commercially successful rappers of the new millennium due to a string of four subsequent Top 20 albums, from Diamond Princess (2002) to Amazin’ (2010) — during which she had a number 17 pop hit with “Here We Go” — and paved the way for artists like Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and Megan Thee Stallion who are similarly daring and provocative.
Trina has also gone into reality television, starring in Love & Hip Hop: Miami, and has achieved a sixth charting album with The One (2019). Not long after that, Trina topped the Hot 100 again, this time as a featured guest on the remix of “Bitch from da Souf,” fronted by Latto, yet another rapper she inspired.
Additional guest verses, including headline tunes like “Receipts” and “Clap,” followed across 2021 and 2022.
Taylor was also named in Billboard’s 2014 list of the “31 Female Rappers Who Changed Hip-Hop.” On the 16th anniversary of her debut album “Da Baddest Bitch,” she released ‘Overnight,’ a single about her career’s highs and lows. Later that year, she released the single ‘Forget That,’ which featured Steph Lecor.
